Remember to study for the test on chapter 8. Use your study guide packet to help you prepare. The worksheets in that packet are very representative of the problems that will be on the test. The completed and corrected (by you) packet will be collected on the day of the test, April 25 and given a completion grade (as we have done in the past).
April 24, 2015
I have not figured out how to upload files to the website yet , so I have shared the ch. 8 study guide packet key with you via Google docs. Unless you have e-mailed me from a personal account before, I shared it with your SCHOOL e-mail (firstname.lastname@stoningtonschools.org). Please let me know if you don't get it.
April 25, 2015 - Stoichiometry
In the textbook: read pp. 275-277; SR#1-3.
April 27, 2016
Do the problems on the worksheet 9.1 - Brownie Recipes. You can probably do these with common sense, but try to use dimensional analysis (it will be good practice! ).
April 29, 2016
You will be finishing the POGIL in class today with your group. You will then watch a couple of stoichiometry tutorial videos which are very helpful at this stage of the game. Take a few notes to help you understand and refer back to. Then you will do the practice problems in the textbook on pages 282, 284, 285, 287. Follow the sample problems to help guide you through them. The critical element will be to make sure you have the correct, balanced equation to start with. Whatever you do not finish in class can be finished for HW. Therefore, spend more time working on the problems so you have less to do at home!!!
The videos you will be watching are Mr. Causey's Chemistry: Stoichiometry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIw_BmFZdhI
and Bozeman Science: Stoichiometry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQq203gyftA (stop at 6:30).
May 3, 2016
In your textbook: do SR problems #1-5 on p. 287. Please come prepared for a lab next class: closed-toe shoes and hair tied back.
May 5, 2016
Complete the LAD 9.1 stoichiometry worksheet (both sides). You can use the molar masses that they give you on the worksheet. Try the % yield questions-just use your logic!
May 9, 2016
We talked about limiting reactants in class as we reviewed the "Foiled Again!" lab. You can watch the Mr. Causey video about calculating limiting reactants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2OfDUboqDg.
For homework, do the practice problems on pp. 289, 291, and 294. Be sure to show your work!! Since we have a delayed opening on Friday, Please come prepared for a lab next class: closed-toe shoes and hair tied back.
May 11, 2016
IN your textbook, do the SR problems #1-4 on p. 294.
May 13, 2016
Do the problems in the "Epic Battle . . ." limiting reactant problems worksheet. Try to use the model we did in class today.
May 17, 2016
You should have the data from your chalk lab. Use the calculations model we did today to calculate the limiting reactant (is there one?), and then calculate the % yield that you achieved in this lab. Finish the calculations and the questions from this lab.
If you are having difficulty, use the directions that were on the back of the warm-up today and practice with problems and/or worksheets that you may have struggled with already. You need to practice (a lot) these types of calculations to get comfortable with them. Try using the directions a couple of times, then test yourself to see how well you are remembering it. See me for extra help!! I will be having extra help Wednesday afternoon after 3:15PM, and Thursday and Friday after school. If you spoke to me about free periods, come see me then.
May 18, 2016
Stoich extra help will be available at the following times:
Wed, 5/18 - 3:15-5:30 only-I am out for professional development today
Thu, 5/19 - activities block, Per. 3 (we will be making up the lab then), Per. 5, after school 2-5
Fri, 5/20 - activities block, Per. 6, after school 2-5
Sat, 5/21 - 9 AM-12 noon
I would be willing to meet with you before school from 6:15-7:00 by appointment only. Please e-mail or see me to set up an appointment.
If you cannot make any of these times work for you, you will have to come up with a plan that works for you. This is an inordinate amount of extra help available-if you feel you need extra help, please make it a priority to get some. We will review and do more practice on Thursday, and the test will be on Monday.
May 23, 2016
In your textbook, read about gas laws: read pp. 303-306, SR#1-4.
May 25, 2015
If you did not complete the worksheet on Boyle's Law and Charles' Law, please do so in preparation for next class. In addition, complete the worksheet about the Combined Gas Law and the Ideal Gas Law. We will review next class.
May 27, 2016
Complete the Ideal Gas Law Practice worksheet. We will be reviewing all worksheets next class, and doing more practice before exam review. Final exam study guide was distributed in class so you can start reviewing for the final exam.
June 1, 2016
Work on your study guide packet in preparation for final exam review next class. You do not have to complete the packet for the next class; instead, focus on doing a few problems in each section to find your weaknesses. We can then go over them next class. The study guide should be completed in preparation for the final exam, and will be collected on the day of the exam. This will be scored for completion as it will be your responsibility to correct your work using the key that will be shared with you via Google docs this weekend. The packet will be worth 20 points for your Q4 grade.
June 3, 2016
Complete the study guide packet in preparation for the final exam next week. This will be due the day of your exam and is worth 20 points!!! You may attach your last 5-points pass to it for bonus credit.
If you feel you need extra help beyond the review class today, I will be available Friday (today) from 2:00-4:00, Sat 6/4 from 9:00-12:00 and Monday 6/6 from 2:00-4:00. Once exams have started, I will not be available as I have to finish up grading, etc.
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR EXAMS!!!
June 4, 2016
I have shared the final exam study guide packet key with you via Google docs. Unless you have e-mailed me from a personal account before, I shared it with your SCHOOL e-mail (firstname.lastname@stoningtonschools.org). Check your personal account if you have a gmail/Google account as I sent to that before your school account if it popped up in my address book. Please don't just copy it for the credit-I expect to see that you CORRECTED your work!
Please let me know if you don't get it.
